Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-9

End of Advanced Body Mechanics..............or is it........................had a talk with my teacher and he recommends that i retake the class. I am almost where he would like to see his students before they move onto acting. So after some talking again with my teacher I decided to retake the class to help myself become even better. So Here I come again Class 3...............dang now I need to start thinking of what kind of scenes I want to do again.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-8

Polished. Here after some notes from the teacher(Director), I cut some parts of the action in the scene.(Had a little too much) and the teacher suggested a different ending. So I made the changes and here we are........

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-7

Blocking.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-7

Planning for Dodgeball. Video Reference, sketches, pitch.
Could not find much for reference for Dodgeball. Sooooo I had to do my own. It works better sometimes for me to do the action myself so that I am not always just sitting at the computer. But to also input the action that I have running in my mind, on to a video that I can watch what I am thinking even more clearly. Enjoy! :)

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-6

Polished. Per my teachers notes I had cut some of the action in the beginning and focused on the rest of the action in the scene. Hope you like it! :)

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-5

Blocking.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-4

Soccer Stu Planning. Video reference, sketches and pitch.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-3

Polished scene. :)

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-2

Blocking Stu. Stu is the name of the character rig the school gives the students to use for their assignments.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-1

Planning for Slam-Dunk contest scene.
Here is my reference shot, sketch, and pitch to my teacher and audience of what is to come out of this scene.

Advanced Body Mechanics Class 3-1

So for our assignments this quarter, we are to pick either Anim Jam or Anim Exercise.
Anim Jam is taking one idea and making 3 related scenes.
Anim Exercise is a new idea for each of the 3 scenes, not having any specific relation.
I had picked Anim Exercise.
The 3 ideas I am thinking of doing is: A Basketball Slam-Dunk contest, Soccer, and Dodgeball.
All sports, but different style and motion.

End of Class 2

I have finished Class 2-Psychology of Body Mechanics and now onto the next one.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-9

Polished scene.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-8

Blocking.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-7

Planning Sketches for my scene.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-7

Assignment 3- Running and Jumping hurdles. Now I would have enjoyed trying to make this video reference myself. It would be a little extreme to do it in the middle of winter. So I had to go to good old You Tube for references.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-6

Polishing.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-5

Blocking

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-4

Planning sketches for walking into sticky gum.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-4

Assignment 2- Video reference for walking into sticky gum.

In case you are wondering, it is winter time. And yes I love my sweatpants! :)

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-3

Polishing- filling in the poses between key poses to smooth out the action in a scene.
Here is my polished scene for, "180 jump over a gap".

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-2

Blocking is an animation technique in which key poses are created to establish timing and placement of characters and props in a given scene or shot.
That is what I have here in my first scene. A blocking pass of the main poses for the scene.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2-1

There are 3 main stages to creating a scene. Planning, Blocking, Polish. Now these could still be broken down even further to Planning, Blocking, Blocking Plus, Polish, Refine and/or even Final.
I am thinking of giving you all a taste of just the main 3 when posting my assignments. Hope you enjoy them! :)
Here is the Planning to my 180 jump over a gap.

Psychology of Body Mechaincs-Class 2

So for the first assignment in Class 2, we need to find video reference for the scene that we have chosen from a list of options. I picked my character to do a 180 jump over a gap. The focus in the reference in the shot needed to be in the legs and hip. So I video taped my own reference for this. I am the character jumping and the rug on the floor is the gap to no where.....dun dun dunnnnnn.

End of Class 1

I have finished Class 1 Basic Foundations and am moving on to Psychology of Body Mechanics!

Class 1- Basic Foundations-9

Character Walks. We now get to choose the walk that has character. The first thing that came to mind was Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura, when he was creeping outside of the rich mans house.
So I chose to do a creeping walk. The first video is my polished stage and the second is a polished stage with some camera angle and mood lighting.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-8

Balancing Poses.
Exhausted poses...............phew.... that took a lot out of me.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-7

The Vanilla Walk. A walk that has no character to it. Very plain and simple.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-7

Here showed our Physical Strength poses.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-6

Here we were given a character that acts like a squirrel. We needed to combine the action of the bouncy ball for the body and the overlapping action in the tail.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-5

This week we worked on Overlapping action using a Pendulum.

Here is the Polished look of my Squash and Stretch Obstacle Course.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-4

Also this week we planned for our shots using an Obstacle course.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-4

This week we worked on Devastation Poses. Here is mine. :(

Class 1- Basic Foundations-3

This week learned the difference between weight.
The exercise was to take two different balls and have them fall.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-2

Bouncing Ball Exercise.

Class 1- Basic Foundations-2

This week we are posing for EXCITEMENT!

Class 1- Basic Foundations

Here we started off by learning poses that tell the action or emotion in a scene.
The first of many, but this one was a free for all. We were to go out and draw people in interesting poses or actions. We also can watch movies and T.V. shows to find some from actors/actresses. I chose to take pictures of myself doing poses.

The Beginning

It all started in school. I loved to draw, mostly cartoon characters.
I made flip books and posters made of 3x4 sheets of 8" x 11" paper.(Mostly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)
I would draw all kinds of characters, but never really realized about being an Animator until I was older.
At first, I talked to some people. Trying to find out an answer to,"How do I become an Animator".
The biggest answer I heard was you would need to go to school for 6yrs., and then at least have 10-15yrs of experience before you can have the opportunity to become an Animator.
It sounded very risky. So I put in the back of my mind.
.................................................................................
Three years ago, I brought the idea back into the front.
I am working at a job that I like, but could not see myself wanting to do this for the rest of my life.
So I decided to look into going to school.
I had browsed around the internet in search of a career.
A few came to mind: Architect, Engineer,..........Animator!
I looked up some schools for animation and found one that I think would fit best for me.
It was all online (so I would not have to drive and find parking), it is taught by Professionals in the Industry, and the tuition cost was cheaper then any I could find. The school is Animation Mentor!
I enrolled myself into the school and took their Maya Springboard Class in the Fall of 2009.
The class would teach me how to prepare and use the 3D software recommended and used by the school.
.................................................................................
After the Springboard Class, I enrolled for school.......
I did not start until the Fall of 2010 due to getting the approval for a Student Loan.
I will begin my school journey through the rest of my posts.
Giving you a look into the process of my class assignments and the crazy mind of Andrew Kochanowski.
